The beginning is the search for meaning. Of self. Of what happens when thought is seeded, a spark takes flight and inspiration begins the journey towards a culmination. A home. GS Shenoy's earlier works are reflection of this quest. The flesh tints, the defined contours, the need to express a subject in all his/her humanity, in all gradations of shadows and light, the minutiae of wrinkles, imprints of time are all very studied, borne of deep study and observation. His subjects in this phase are literal and yet they are lit by something that only a trained eye cannot impart. They have an inner fire, a glow that seems unearthly as if the artist can see an extra dimension invisible to the naked gaze.This extra sensory perception is what will define Shenoy's later work.
